Pain/crying from ear cleaning

I wanted to find out if it was normal for it to be extremely painful to
have your ear cleaned of the wax buildup? The nurse got some of
the wax out, but she finally stopped as I kept pushing her away as
I just could not handle the level of pain.
I understand the dizziness is normal, but afterwards I felt my hearing in that ear was severely diminished. Hours later it is somewhat better, but not completely back to normal yet.

Also, I was shocked, but I broke out into heavy deep sobbing which I couldn't stop. The nurse stopped any further ear cleaning and she just then hugged me instead.

Please help me to understand what's going on here.....
Thanks
