Throat cancer

am a 26 year old male and i have been dipping for a few years now. ive had a sore throat for a little over a week. started out as a feeling of a lump in my throat now it just burns .Taking Zyrtec OTC not helping i do feel the drip in the back of my throat. Since my symptoms have been going on for so long now and my throat isnt feeling any better, should i go let a ENT examine me for throat cancer? my Primary Physician told me it wasnt bacterial and it is a viral infection, but should a virus last long?
