Rod Moser, PA, PhD responded:
Depends on what they are testing for....but basically, the ingredients of this over-the-counter medication, with the exception of the alcohol, does not contain illegal drugs. When it doubt, don't take it.....

googleboy replied to Rod Moser, PA, PhD's response:
It is just a basic urine testdone in a cup seeing if any illegal drugs are in your system. Didn't know if like sudophedrine, it may have something in it that would show up as meth, or anything.

Rod Moser, PA, PhD replied to googleboy's response:
No....meth should not show up, unless of course, you are using meth or other illegal drugs. Pseudoephedrine is used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine, but will not be detected the same way.

frobud replied to Rod Moser, PA, PhD's response:
Do any over the counter drugs cause a urine test to be positive for opiates?

avatar
Rod Moser, PA, PhD replied to frobud's response:
There are zillions of OTC drugs, so I don't know the ingredients of all of them. Opiates are controlled drugs, so they are usually regulated by state and federal pharmacy laws. Before taking anything, read the ingredients and ask the pharmacist.

Most people who test positive for opiates on a drug test know why....

Old discussion, but since this is classified as a resource, I thought I'd share a little info. Though most of the time only illegal drugs will show on a screening, you have to be cautious when eating poppyseeds or products with poppyseeds in them prior to a screening because it can show up as opiates. Same type of plant, some of the same trace elements, so don't eat those if you know you will need a drug test.
