My son who is 15 has been bleeding from his rectum off and on for about a year, was told by his Dr its hemroids.... Well recently it was so bad that the toilet filled up with maroon blood. there was so much blood it was all over the bathroom just pouring out of him. Took him to the ER but by that time it stopped and they sent us home and said its probably a hemroid. I thought maybe a vein had broken. now i took him to a surgeon for pediatrics and he said no way at that age should he be bleeding like that. A hemroid does not bleed like that. He goes for in for surgery on tuesday to see whats going on and i am so scared it may be cancer. did anyone on this board have symtoms like this?

Hi and Welcome,

Usually teens who have colon cancer have a family history (genetic). Many other things can cause your son's rectal bleeding - an ulcer, a fissure, an anal tear, colon irratation, and/or multiple internal hemmroids (big veins) that are inflamed and have ruputured. HTH

I will say an extra prayer that your son's surgery goes smoothly and that something easily fixable (and not cancer) was causing his bleeding. Please come back and let us know how your son is doing.

You, your son, and your family will be in my prayers.

G-d Bless,

DaLy

We had surgery today, The good news is they are hemroids the bad news is the surgeon said he did not want to touch him..... He said he never seen roids that severe and is worried about his liver. He said that is what you see in a 75 yr old man not in a 15 yr old boy. Now he is sending me to another specialist. I really dont know why he could not fix them.

Hi,

I'm glad that your son has hemmoroids and not cancer. Perhaps the reason why your son's surgeon did not remove them is just that he does not have the experience that a board certified GI surgeon has. FWIW, it's a good sign when a (pediatric) general surgeon feels a specialist would be better. Please keep us updated.

You, your son, and your family will be my prayers.

G-d bless,
