I've been having COPD/emphysema-like symptoms the past 5 days, even thought I've never smoked a day in my 27 year old life so far. It's weird, I never had any breathing problems in my life but 5 days ago, after dinner, I started to feel shortness of breath. I stayed up a few hours and it was ok so I went to bed. Felt ok in the morning, and after breakfast, it started again and is still present. I went to the doctor that evening and he said it was gastric reflux and prescribed for 20 Pantop-D capsules for 10 days but after 5 days so far, the shortness of breath is still present and has not decreased. I am going to go over again this evening and ask for a re-examination as well as ECG tests and if he has a spirometer, then a spirometry as well. I have an appointment with another general physician in 2 days as well for a different opinion.

In the meantime, if anyone has an idea what could be wrong with me, please tell me.

Go see a pulmonologist and have a lung function test for one. In your case having never smoked I would have a genetic test for antitrypsin deficiency. That is a genetic deficiency that can severly effect the lungs/liver. I have it and didn't find out till now and I'm 69 yrs. old. It's called Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency I did smoke for about 25 years but have been quit for well over 10 years. I am now on oxygen 24/7 and it has changed my whole life. However, I will never give up!! I would love to hear from you again.
