Anyone have experience using Cytotec? I should have been 11 weeks Sunday and lost the baby at about 9 1/2 weeks. I have been trying to let things happen naturally, but it appears I'm going to need some intervention. I don't want surgery and Cytotec was the other option given to me. I want to know what to expect.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Sarah,

I used it during my first loss, and although experiences vary widely, I can tell you that it was horrible for me. Absolutely horrible. It was incredibly painful and emotionally traumatizing to see my baby after my body expelled him/her.

I am so sorry that you're going through this. I had two D&Es after using the cytotec (different losses) and that was much better for me. The choice is very personal and I wish you best of luck and healing with whatever choice you make.

laura,

Thanks for sharing you're experience. I have read about lots of unpleasant experiences and I just decided this morning to have surgery instead. I didn't want to have to choose either option, but unfortunately, it's been over 2 weeks and I need to do something. I am having surgery tomorrow.

Hi, i recently lost my son, I was almost 16 months and found out the week prior that his heart had stopped. I opted to not go to the hospital and do it naturally.. 06/15 is when we found out- i did not have him until 06/25/10- it was long drawn out waiting time, but im glad I did it "naturally" ..emotionally it was hard as well to see him, i dont feel it was traumatizing, but My Dr advised me to start the Cytotec after I started bleeding and after I had him was when I started. For me, i cramped for about an hour then, boom there he came. I bled quite a bit the 1st hour, then today no bleeding. I only did one course of the Cytotec, maybe 30 pills. But other than the one hour prior to having him, it wasnt painful for my experience. but emotionally drawn out.. A memory that Im glad I have becuase its so personal, but i didnt want the memory of the hospital and D&C. I pray your experience will bepain free as possible..

Hello Koop, Im very sorry for your loss. I had a D&C in febuary when I lost our baby I was also 11 weeks and lost the baby at 9 weeks. The procedure was not that bad. Im sure they will put you under and you wont feel a thing while it is happening. During the recovery week please take it easy as you will feel sore and crampy. I over did it and had some really bad cramps and clots. I also got my period 4 weeks after the surgery. Good luck and I hope you heal quickly in mind and body. ~B~
