Best control method to combine with condom, for virgin

My girlfriend is planning to lose her verginity in around three weeks, when I'll be visiting her -- she lives abroad. Despite she is scared to get pregnant at this time, she doesn't want to take any birth control pills! I'm wearing condom, I'd like to know what is the best birth of control method to combine with condom, except the pill, to get max safe rates. She's 29. She doesn't like to get any exams (pelvic etc...). I am considering 'Ortho Evra' (birth control patch); would it be ok? does she need to start wearing it a few weeks in advance for it to be effective?
    Anyway, any advice is welcome

    Thanx

Most doctors will not prescribe any type of birth control without an exam.

As for non-pill birth control, there is the sponge for women. Also, you can also use a spermicide along with the condom to increase its effectiveness.

Thanks. Unfortunately the sponge is not sold neither in my country nor in my girlfriend's country
