scared straight and crossing my fingers

I've been with my wife for 35 years. For the last 25 years I've been dealing with my wife's PTSD. She's self medicated with alcohol during that time and smoked even though she has COPD. Convincing her not to smoke and drink was a tough sell.
This year she was diagnosed with breast cancer and the worry over that and the treatment has made it a tough a year.

She went in for bone density screening and found that she has preosteoperosis. Alcohol keeps your bones from absorbing calcium and as a result she stopped drinking and smoking last Thursday. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she is now motivated enough to keep with it.

Stopping 2 vices at the same time can be sooo very difficult. I genuinely hope she has a strong and healthy support network to help with her goal. I remember that you yourself have a busy time schedule and I hope there will be minimal backlash from withdrawing from these vices for both of you. Sending prayers and good luck your way.

Despite significant consumption, in the past she has been able to quit without adverse physical consequences. I took a day off which allowed me to be with her for 4 days.

Hey steve

We all hope and pray for you and yours. She will need a the help she can get. Make sure she has more help than just you. You can be strong for her, but your only human. You can't be there 24/7. My gf has a mother with dementia and she finally had to put her mom in a care facility. I'm not saying put your wife in one, but make sure you have help. She can't get better if your done in. Good Luck
