I read that if you have an anal abscess it needs to be opened before it erupts. So, my question is what happens if it erupts before medical attention?

It can lead to an infection. I have had so many I have lost count. I have had the I and D on about 4 of them and in fact, I have one now. However, it just filled right back up after being drained. I would suggest you consult a doctor right away if you have one before it leads to an infection near the rectum. Any infection near an opening to your body is ALWAYS a bad idea with IBD.

Best of luck and health to you
