Well after reading all the gov stuff on-line! I got frustated and called them yesterday. I can file for disability and still be working! Heck, why could they just say that!. But at least it's good news and a start. So need to sit down and get everything together and fill it out! Then just wait. Where I live they said 6month to a year!! But if I have to quit before I get it, I can't apply for unemplyment, because I would be unable to take a job. Hmmmmmm? At least it's a start!

If you have to quit because of your health, you wouldn't get unemployment anyway I don't think. I think you have to be fired or laid off to get unemployment. (Don't quote me on that-just basing it on what I know from people who have lost their jobs)

I'm so proud of you! I'm glad that you are at least getting a few answers to get you started! It seems so overwhelming when you have to start all of that paperwork, but it will pay off in the long run! Good luck!

I was approved for disability payments with a Crohn's diagnosis 6 months after I applied. There was an initial 5 month waiting period where you do not get back pay while they gather your records from all of your doctors. Once I was approved, I did receive a month or two of back pay to get me caught up. I even receive benefits for my 2 kids that I keep in a separate account specifically for their needs! I had no idea that I even qualified for that! I couldn't believe that I did not have to hire an attorney and I really can't believe that I wasn't denied from the get-go. I'm still waiting to hear whether or not I've been approved. I applied, got denied, filed for an appeal and many, many months later, I got my appeal. My hearing was January 15th and like I said, no word yet.

Thanks for your comments. I think I am going to give it a try. It's going to be hard for them to get all of my records as we have moved and I have gone to 3 different offices for care but hopefully they can gather everything and I can finally get some compensation.
Someone told me that they look at your spouse's income which I don't think should matter. If you can't work, there is one less income coming in! Thanks everyone you have been great!

I just got my letter of approval like, minutes ago. The amount I make is based off of what my father paid in during his working life, as he is also disabled. I don't know how much that is yet, but when I find out, I'll let you guys know.

I am in the process of gathering all of my medical records currently and going to try and get a written statement from my current doctor as I have heard that helps. Its not an easy process to apply and its most certianly not a fun nor fast process, but its a process I feel that you should file ealier rather than later. As it seems to take at minimum about a year and at times up to 3 years. If, If I get approved this year it will have taken almost 2 1/2 years. My lawyers says I have a good case, and its finally on judges desk but the judge likes to make decisions via a hearing. So maybe, maybe this summer. Its really kinda crazy having someone else decide your financial future, but what choice do we have. Its either sink or swim literally.
So, I say check out the site, you got nothing to lose.
