Keep a diary/journal with what foods you eat, your symptoms, pain levels, and the number of times you use the bathroom each day. Make sure to note any visible mucus and blood.

Being able to take the diary in and share the exact symptoms you have and the degree of symptoms helps your doctor and you truly work as a team to get successful treatment.

Just a little add on, I find I do not do well with left overs or with Milk or dairy products that have been open for more than about 72 hrs. So I only buy 1/2 gallons of milk, and while it cost a bit more its a small price to pay for less urgent runs to the bathrooms.
