    Pain Management without Meds

    Here are my favorite pain management without meds-
    • Heating pad-couldn't live without it-don't even travel without one
    • Shower-we tend to run out of hot water when I flare
    • Bath
    • Massage-if I can stand it and afford it
    • Finding a really absorbing project, hobby, or book-but not anything too difficult

    I also use a heating pad fairly often if I'm having a lot of pain. Another thing that sometimes helps me is to sit with a pillow pressed against my stomach. Not hard, but hard enough that there's some pressure there. If that doesn't do it, sometimes I get on my knees on my bed and lay down with a pillow between the tops of my thighs and my stomach because that creates a lot more pressure.

    Definitely heating pad, though sometimes ice helps me more. I try both and see which works. It is interesting......

    Also, lavender essential oil for nausea. And Ginger Tea.

    I use a lot of Lidoderm patches for back pain, but I have used them for stomach pain before with some relief. Insurances cover those. I have used Hot/Cold patches and even the hot/cold gel (even though I smell like mint when I do) when I am running out of options.

    I use a heating pad many times. The hot/cold patches are good, but can be expensive. As always, I recommend Costco.

    When its the middle of the night and I am hurting I could care less what I smell like or that the patches are about $1 a patch. I am grateful for them at 2 am! Last night I had one patch across my lower back and I cut one in half to put 1/2 of a patch on each butt cheek to help me relax a bit from the rectum pain. So, for $2, and I smelled like a stick of mint gum... but I went back to sleep!

    im like u just tryin to make it from day to day im tired of meds ive had crohns 4 the last 8 years had flare ups got threw them i just had to learn what to eat and what not to eat and learn to do some things different but i quit taking my meds 3 months ago cause im just tired of taking them all the time and now they want to take a foot of small intestine out and im just not sure on the surgery my wife is supporting me as best she can but i just need some info from someone else who has the same problems i have. and about the surgery i just dont no if its the right thing or not

    Massage really feels ok if the pain is not severe: but "real" has only one remedy for me: pain medication. Three or four times a day, during or after meals, sometimes late at night, awakened by serious abdominal pain. I wish sassafras tea worked, hot showers, etc... but they don't for me.

    I have had 2 surgeries. They took all the diseased intestines out, it came back worse than ever less than one month later. I had another surgery. The second surgery helped but did not go into remission. I hav very little intestines left. Food goes through you real quick. I was on Remicade and Cymzia. Came off both of them. I still take 30 pills a day. Eat what you want, if it makes you sick, do not eat it. That's what doc told me. It can take a while to recover from the surgery, but I would do it again. While there is no cure, the surgery can be helpful. There is someone who had their first surgery, same time as me (1981), they are still in remission with no flares. Good luck and hope surgery works for you.

    I sometimes use a hair dryer -- put the hot air under my shirt on my back -- relieves pain on occasion.
