Topic Suggestions, Please!
Olivia_WebMD_Staff posted:
Hi wonderful WebMD community members!

We love coming up with topics for this board that we think you'll enjoy sinking your teeth into, but we'd also love to start some topics that you have requested.

If you have a topic you'd like to debate with others, post your suggestion here on this thread.

Happy New Year!

should there be so much support FOR teen pregnancy or should there be more support AGAINST it?

Olivia, before we begin suggesting topics, might I inquire if we are limited to medical situations? I would like it better if we can open the doors to all issues (including health but not limited to.) I think more individuals might respond were they able to escape for a few minutes from their health and medical discussions.

Also, could we keep the day's topic in the forefront? I know initially you push-pinned it to the top, but after a while it seemed to drift, and I was never quite sure what we were focusing on. Maybe even only putting it there for a day or so and then presenting a new issue might keep folks checking, and keep the discussion fresh?

I know you asked for ideas, but wanted to check on these issues first. Generally, I find this new board a super idea!

Product_Team replied to rachael67's response:
Thanks for the reply, Rachael. I am very happy you are enjoying this board. It is indeed a new idea, and I am excited every day I see the vibrant debate ensuing around the topics Olivia and her team post.

While I will of course defer to Olivia on your inquiry re: the day's topics in the forefront, I wanted to immediately answer that YES, all topics are up for grabs, and not limited to only health or medical topics.

So please suggest away!

(and thanks for sharing; this is your space, and would not be at all possible without you)

Hi Rachael!

I concur with our dear product manager above. We can hit on just about any topic. I can't promise we'll take all suggestions as some may be a little TOO hot for WebMD, but all suggestions are still welcome.

Take care,
rachael67 replied to Olivia_WebMD_Staff's response:

Would you like us to offer the suggestions on this site or is there some other less public arena for us to do so in order for you to keep tabs on the ideas... and to determine the "heat" of the subject?

One other suggestion I offered: Could we keep one topic on the site only for a day or longer. By doing so, we might draw people daily to just check in to see what's new...and won't give folks time to get bored with the same issues? Just a suggestion.

Olivia_WebMD_Staff replied to rachael67's response:

You are welcome to send suggestions to us at . Just be sure to put "Debate Topics" as you subject line in the email.

Do you think GMO's are safe?

Should there be more boundaries on Cosmetic Surgery?

Do you agree with allowing the Pharmaceutical Drug Company's to advertise via television, magazines, billboards?

Should the President be allowed to sign Bill's into Law on New Year's Eve?
An_241873 replied to Olivia_WebMD_Staff's response:
hey Olivia, I think that a lot of the debates get off topic but the smoking debate is way off base. I really feel that yes people should stand up for how they feel or else it would not be a debate, but the comments have gone way over the line. Please say something.. I love to read the debates but this is to much.

PS the email did not work that's why I'm posting on this discussion.
rachael67 replied to Olivia_WebMD_Staff's response:
For whatever reason the addy you gave didn't work for me either. So, some suggestions:

Would you, as the song says, "trade all your tomorrows for one yesterday"???

What do I hope to accomplish with my life?

(Lengthy) Despite pre-election campaign promises, this New Year's Eve President Obama, with the approval of Congress, signed legislation which essentially preserves the ongoing policy permitting the detention of American citizens indefinitely with no meaningful way to assert their innocence.
In other words, some of our citizens could be jailed for life without trial.
Apparently both the Administration and Congress feel that in this age of terrorism, in order to insure our safety, it is necessary to destroy a basic Constitutional guarantee: Fair and impartial justice.
How do you feel????????

Rachael (I'll most likely have more...Stay tuned!!)
Olivia_WebMD_Staff replied to An_241873's response:

I'll take a closer look at that one in a sec.

Keep in mind that off-topic can be okay as long as people aren't attacking each other. If that is happening, those posts will be removed.

Olivia_WebMD_Staff replied to rachael67's response:
Thanks, Rachael!

Here is the address -- . I realized that I typed it as .com instead of .net. Ugh.

So sorry.

brunosbud responded:
Thank you, Olivia, for starting this wonderful community and Happy New Year to you and yours.

I would like to start a discussion rather than a debate, per say...

The topic: "Safe Names We May Use to Refer to Other Members (of Below Average Intelligence)". lol

I have a question, sort of about new topics, but a little off as well. I am trying to figure out how to post my own debate but the only thing I can find is to start a new community. I have read many other people's debates about seeking ex-girlfriend advice, marital advice, or weight loss advice. They are pretty much all pretaining to advice and I wanted to do the same with my own topic but I can't figure out how. The only option I can find is posting my own community, but I didn't want to start a community, I just wanted to start a "debate" in the Talk Show community. How do I go about doing this?
