Rihanna and Chris Brown: Forgive Abuse?
avatar
Olivia_WebMD_Staff posted:
In 2009, singer Chris Brown was charged with beating his then girlfriend, pop star Rihanna. Brown has since gone through counseling.

Lately, rumors are flying around the Internet that the two songsters have reconciled. The word is Brown even attended Rihanna's birthday party last week. After two remixes were released this week, it is true that they are once again collaborating musically.

So, could you/would you be able to forgive an ex who abused you either physically or mentally and be friends? Is it healthy or just asking for trouble?

it is simply supply and demand. every punching bag requires a puncher.

Yes, I could. Sometimes people have breakdowns. It sucks to be the recipient, and I have only been so once, however if it was constantly occurring, I would part ways. I don't think I should have to compromise my well being for someone who obviously will not work on his issues.

I hope she's not setting herself up for more bruises, even though I'd like to think therapy helps people with abuse tendencies.

If it were me, I could forgive, but I don't think I could forget. And, I certainly don't think I could bring myself to be a friend to that person and be around them all the time. Maybe I'm just not that evolved.

- i feel like all of yall blame chris brown for the situation , what about the whole story. He wasnt the only one that hit , she had a part in the situation tooo! i am not saying hitting a woman is right , but everyone has a breaking point, or something like that. Chris Brown was wrong but he has paid for his mistakes, and i think yall should give him another chance . SORRY to say, but Chris Brown is DUMB if he gets back with rhinna because his carrer was almost runined, i LOVE chris brown so much, but i dont think he should get back with rhinna, that would be a really dumb thing !

I DON'T USUALLY REPLY TO SUCH THINGS, BUT IT WAS REALLY TURNING MY STOMACH AS I READ EACH WORD ABOUT THIS BEYOND WORSE RELATIONSHIP....I DON'T USUALLY CONDONE THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR, BUT I WOULD REALLY LOVE TO SPEAK TO RIHANNA ABOUT THE PHYSICAL ABUSE THAT WILL, I MUST REPEAT WILL GET EVEN WORSE ... THE MENTAL ABUSE ALWAYS SEEM MORE HARMFUL THAN THE PHYSICAL BUT IN ANY CASE I JUST WANNA SAY AS A BATTERED WOMAN MYSELF THAT " A REAL MAN DOES NOT PUT HIS HANDS ON A WOMAN TO HURT HER " A REAL MAN WOULD'VE PULLED THE CAR OVER AND EITHER ASK YOU TO LEAVE THE CAR OR HE WOULD'VE LEFT THE CAR HIMSELF ... NO ONE SHOULD'VE RAISED THEIR HANDS TOWARDS ONE ANOTHER IN A FORM OF - PUNCHING, HITTING, SLAPPING, BEING SPIT ON, AND THE MOST HURTFUL IS BEING MENTALLY DISRESPECTED ....

TRUST AND BELEIVE ME THE ABUSE WILL GET WORSE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

S&M is consentual rough sex with two willing partners.

Getting the s*** beat out of you by someone out-of-control is not the same thing.

I was abused as a wife - by my husband. I did not stay in the relationship long after we got married - I got a divorce. Once an abuser always abuser.

I never forgot what my husband did - I did forgive him, but there was no way I'd go back to him - for what - to have it repeat itself no thank you.

I believe Rihanna is asking for trouble even though Brown got therapy or counseling. Not me no way would I'd take him back.
