Do too many medications negate use of an antidepressant?

Hi,
My Grammie who is 93 just went to her regular doctor with my parents to see if she could be put on an antidepressant to help her with depression. The doctor said he was worried because of her other multiple medications (I think she takes cumadin) and the risk that she could fall. He wants her to have fun and socialize. My Grammie lives alone and isn't a fan of getting out, she is very overweight. She loves to read, watch TV and presently does very little exercise. My question is should she have a consult with a psychopharmacologist to see if there is an antidepressant she could try.
I've also heard recently about gene testing for determining what antidepressants are more likely to be effective. Is that anything you would recommend?
Thank you for your help and I appreciate your expertise.
