Hello,

I am seeing a new psychiatrist, my old one isn't working out. I think I like her, its hard to tell the first day but she seems a lot better than the other one. Anyway, she feels as if I am not on the right combination of meds. I currently take Pristq and Risperdone, She is taking me off the Risperdone and starting me on Seroquel. I am a little nervous, I am always nervous when starting something new. Is anyone else on these and can give me some insight? She also mentioned possibly starting me on Lithium at my next visit. That makes me way way nervous.

So any if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions for me I would love to hear them.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you so much for checking in, makes me feel better knowing others care.

I did start the Seroquel last night. I took it earlier than I normally take my meds because I was so tired and was ready for bed. Well I now know that I can't take it until I am 100% sure I am ready to fall asleep. It hit me like a ton of bricks. I feel asleep before any of the kids did. My husband came in and was surprised to see me passed out in the bed. Thank God he was home. I sleep very well to say the least. I was very groggy all morning, its going to take some time to get used to.

I am having somewhat of an hard day today with it coming to getting out of bed, a lot of it had to do with the meds I think but I still feel like all I want to do it lay here. I forced myself to take the kids to the park and the library. And believe me when I tell you it took everything in me to do that. I had to though, I think me being servery depressed is taking a toll on them and that scares me.

Anyway, thank you again for checking on me. Hope you are all doing well today

Hey Lis11, glad you were able to sleep but hate you had a hard day. I am proud of you for taking your kids to the park and library. I know that took a lot out of you, but you did it and should be proud of yourself as well.

all is going well here.

Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Hope you are having a good night.

hello, L --

at one time or another, i have taken all of these meds except pristiq/desvenlafaxine.

i don't remember anything in particular about risperdal/risperidone.

i remember seroquel/quetiapine (see PS1) as being very sedating. i took it an hour or two before bedtime for that reason -- so i wouldn't be woozly in the morning.

i remember lithium (PS2) as causing fairly strong hand tremors; they were intense enough that i could not do fine tasks such as putting earrings in my pierced ears or hanging christmas ornaments that required making knots in sewing thread. i was very relieved when my dr decided i should not take it any more.

remember, tho, that not everyone suffers side effects, that some side effects diminish after a short period, and that some side effects are treatable or livable-with. for instance, the tremors i had with lithium did not affect my ability to write.

my suggestion is that you try the meds combination that your dr thinks is appropriate and see how you do. if you start to get what you think are side effects, call her immediately.

i hope this helps.

I would suggest giving the seroquel a few weeks, I took it yrs ago and some of the grogginess wore off and it just helped me sleep. So hopefully it will do the same for you as well.
Good for you for getting out of the house, I know how exhausting depression can be and how hard it can be to be a mother at the same time. Sounds like you are really trying and that means alot, dont doubt how good of a mom you are just because you have depression, but hopefully your doctor can get you feeling better soon!

Hello all, I hope you all are having a good day. As I just started the seroquel last night I thought I would reply again to the original post. (I have never been on lithium so I don't know how helpful this will be)

my doctor put me on the seroquel yesterday. It took me down almost immediately after taking it and i had a hard time getting out of bed (not unusual), but I have been up for about 3 hours now and i am still groggy. I have had some unhealthy sleeping habits for a long time now - staying up til 1 to 3 in the am, then not sleeping well and staying under the covers until 10am - if you haven't guessed, I do not have a job nor a reason to get up in the morning.

After reading these posts I am planning on giving the seroquel xr a few weeks to see if the sedating affect and grogginess throughout the following day will go away.

I come to the conclusion kitties have the right idea
