Tomorrow, many years ago was a very dark day for me. I have a visit I make every year. To talk to someone that was my childhood hero. I still moisten the grass were he rests. Even tonight it's exceptionally hard for me to write this. I may be off line tomorrow.

Why was it we never said goodbye.
Ah yes, dear ol' Dad said no one should see.
What was in the coffin wasn't for family.
So we let you go beneath the oak tree.

I still come by from time to time,
missing you all the while
Seems I'm never fail to moisten the grass above your shell.

I was waiting for the summer of joy,
I was excited behold belief, silly 13 yr old me.
I would spend the summer with my boyhood hero,
more father and mentor than brother.
My bags were packed, I stood ready at the door.
Waiting and waiting for the time to come,
it never would for the phone call came instead.

I remember walking out the door that day, sunny and bright.
Wanting to die as well. I felt no joy, hope had burst — dieing didn't seem the worst.
I ran to the woods out back screaming and crying, God, I wanted someone to hold me.
I don't remember the time. I wandered lost in a haze. Stumbling along, with no one
to tell my tale that dieing day

Brother there is finally a new Richard in the family— he's becoming a good man.
Even better looking that the childhood hero you were to me.

Hey D, thank you for sharing as I know it was not easy for you as this day tomorrow will be filled with heartache. We will be thinking about you, hoping you return with a little less heartache (no words can describe what you are truely going through).

I only say this because you said there is a new Richard in the family and he's becoming a good man. He will be happy hearing this from you tomorrow and I am sure he would only hope that your pain will ease, if even a little, knowing you have another childhood hero to help you get through the dark days, Richard.

I (as everyone else here) will be thinking about you sending so many hugs your way, knowing you have a tough day ahead of you. Though, no matter how many hugs you receive, as there will never be enough to ease your pain, there will also never be too many during those dark days.

((((hugs)))))

My heart goes out to you, D, and your poem was touching and poignant. I'm sorry you never got to see your brother in his casket to say goodbye.
I've never lost someone close to me, unless you count an unborn baby. But having gone through that gives me some sense of what it must be like to lose a living loved one. I hope tomorrow goes easy on you, and that you feel the love and concern from your friends here.
((Hugs))

Thanks NF, Chez , MyR, AM and LissmeansTrouble.
NF - it only took 4 children to name the last child after my brother. Of course the two girls in the middle might have objected.
AM, I don't know how parents deal with the loss of any child - many hugs for you.
Chez - What do Scots wear under their Kilts or is it a state secret?
Liss - thank you - Don't know you very well but glad your here. Not the why, just that your here.
