Spring Storms In the Great Plains

Demons2011 posted:
Would have been on sooner but power was out from 8 PM to 12 - Front passed with 40-75 mph winds, thunder, lighting and heavy rain. Made it through worst part of the storm only to lose power. At least no tornadoes in my area. In my area we are having various small town (20,000) fairs and ours started last night - guess that was cancelled as well. Don't want to over state our little town, but it was voted as one of the top 5 places, small towns, to live in the U.S. - Can't think of a single reason it was. No mountains, no beaches but still not a bad place.

That sounds like quite a storm! Glad you didn't have tornadoes.
I have never lived in a really small town. I wonder if it has a different feel to it. I have pretty much always been in suburbs of over 100K...
So how are you doing today?
Happy Friday!

Hoping everyone is having a good Friday! Small town living is fairly good. Actual metroplex is about 600,000 /-. Having lived in L.A., DC, NYC and Memphis. I'll take it. Culture isn't all it's cracked up to be when it drags along all the other stuff. Here kids are relatively safe. They get a chance to grow up being kids. Drugs and such are everywhere. The metro area has plenty of all the bad things as well, shootings etc.

Actually the storm was fairly mild. Enough to cancel opening ceremonies For the CWS. We get much stronger ones out here. The impressive, massive and incredible were used by nephew first time he visited from Wa. St. Of course he didn't know about Mulberry Trees or Fireflies either.

D, I am glad you made it safely through the storm and no tornados. it really stinks when you lose power (it happens here at least once yearly). One of the strange thing about living here is we rarely see lightening and/or hear thunder (that happens about once a year too).

hope you are having a good friday. it is still early here, but so far so good. i am with you when it comes to small towns. i live in one and i don't know if i could go back living in a large city.
i think wa state is truely a beautiful state and i think i will stay here a little bit longer. (i've only lived here for about 7 years).

ahh, it is the small things you miss when you live in the city.... i.e. mulberry trees or fireflies - dont forget the crickets chirping
