I sleep at least 20 hrs a day. Im very deppressed. Ive been on effexor 150 xr for about a year. I used to only get depressed and sleep all the time in the winter. Ive had test for vitamin d deficiny(sp?) and about every test there is. They dont find anything. They added seroquel a few months ago. Almost every medication for dep they have tried me on I have bad allergic reactions or it doesnt help. I feel like im just sleeping my life away. Im so depressed , I dont see anything getting any better. My dr put me on ritalin Thursday. I was having some very bad thoughts, so bad I dont want to even write them. I called the dr, the nurse said the dr said to take for 2 or 3 more days. It wasnt the med causing the thoughts, it hadnt had time in 1 day to get in my system. I woke up thurs night, I felt like i had a huge rock on my chest and i couldnt breathe good. I called them Fri morning and told the nurse what happened and i wasnt taking the ritalin again. She said she would call me back after she talked to dr. I havent heard from them yet.I cant believe they can send people to the moon, but I cant find any help for my depression.

hi ripvanwinckle, welcome to this group.
I am sorry you are feeling so tired and depressed and that it seems to be lasting for such a long time.
Have you seen a psych dr? If not can you be referred?
Its a shame that they did not get back to you on Friday, hope they do tomorrow. How are you feeling now that you have stopped the ritalin, is there some improvement in the side effects?
Just want to say, hang in there, keep posting here as it is a very supportive group where others will be able to share their experiences with you and you with us.
Keep us updated on how you are doing

ripvanwinckle, you are not alone on adverse reactions to the normal litany of drugs Psy Doctors prescribe. I have gotten bad memory loss, skin crawl, anger, over/under sleep and other issues. So I do understand. Right now my only method of controlling, treating depression is CBT, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Something which may or may not help you. It doesn't stop low periods completely but the duration and depth have been better. I have times where I can't sleep or like you over sleep. Hoping it improves quickly for you.

Hi ripvanwinkle,
My thought is that with antidepressants, they take awhile to build up in your system as far as the good effects you are looking for, but as for side effects, you can feel those right away. So with those bad thoughts you were having, if you have not noticed having them prior to taking this medication, then I would say it was a side effect of the med. Good job stopping it especially with that feeling of a rock on your chest, that is nothing to mess with! I'm sorry your doctor's office has been slow to respond, might be better to just make an appointment with your doctor as soon as you can to talk about it. That way you have his full attention. I hope you get some relief soon!!
