Diabetes and Prednisone
cinash333 posted:
I have had Type 2 Diabetes for about 7 years. At first I lost a lot of weight and had my diabetes under control. Then I developed Polymyalgia Rheumatica and had to begin taking Prednisone. Prednisone automatically brings your sugar levels higher even without eating. I am having a hard time controlling my diabetes because of this. I presently take Byetta 10 mcg. twice a day and Humilin 22 units at breakfast. I also have Atrial Fibrillation and take Coumadin which makes it difficult with diet cause I can't eat a lot of green leafy vegetables. HELP!!! I am 66 years of age. :crying:

You need to speak to your doctor. You can acheive good control, even while on prednisone, but it will require some tweaking of your regime. You may need to take more shots per day to make this happen, but it is important that your diabetes stay in control so you don't get complications. Do you see an endocrinologist? Cora
