The problem with flax seed oil is that the form of omega-3 is alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), rather than straight EPA and DHA. The body has to convert ALA to EPA and DHA in order for you to receive the anti-inflammatory benefits. Unfortunately, diabetics and the elderly are not always very good at converting ALA. This is why fish oil is helpful. The fish's body does the converting for you.
Additionally, if you eat straight flax seed, you are probably not absorbing much of the ALA because of they are tiny, tough, slippery, fibrous little seeds. If you want to absorb more of the ALA, try grinding the seeds or buying flax meal. That way, you still get the fiber (which you don't get from the flax oil).
I like flax meal on my yogurt. But I still take fish oil every day to make sure I'm getting enough EPA and DHA.
"A recent clinical study conducted by The Centre for Nutritional Studies found Barlean's Omega Swirl to be 90% more bio-available than standard fish oil. Because Barlean's proprietary Swirl technology significantly reduces the size of the fish oil molecules, it allows the oil to more efficiently pass through the intestinal wall and into the bloodstream. In fact, the total percentage of oil that reached the bloodstream was 9-times greater with Omega Swirl than with the same dose of standard fish oil."

I might (????) consider trying it, when I run out of my horse-pills.
Gomer

I wish they made it in orange. They make a flax swirl in orange, but not a fish swirl.
I suspect that Omega Swirl would be better for people with intestinal issues, since less would pass through to the colon and cause irritation.
When I have my next famdoc apt (annual special) I plan to let him know I stopped the fish oil HORSEpills and started on Pina Colada.......instead. I doubt I will be on the Pina Colada long enough to effect my labs when I am to get them drawn. Might be interesting to compare results from my up-comming labs to the next labs tho. IF its at least equal to the HORSEpills in effect, just eliminating the moster pills should be worth it, and if it works better, that;s a BIG plus.
Thanks for the info, none of the local places carry it, so I had to order it online, should get it later this week. Even local health store only carries JUNK in my opinion, the same stuff I can get at any wally or meijer's, only at inflated prices.
By the way, does the MSU stand for Michigan State or another state?
Gomer aprox 35 miles from MSU (south) & (west( UofM.
Yes, MSU stands for Michigan State University. And all of the health food stores around here carry omega swirl...it's too bad the one near you doesn't. Sometimes a store will start carrying something if you request it and they think it will sell well.
My latest Black's I got at SBS, and decades before that I used to get LP records in the same area. I used to frequent Marshal's (before they moved) back in the triangle area and the pet store. (exotic creatures, like to pet one of their big black tarantulas about the size of my hand. Their fur is soft as mink) My wfie said NO to a tarantula, the ONLY spider I trust, so its cats and dogs. We did raise 4-H rabbits for show at MSU and my kids all did sheep for the local fair. Is the university's ice cream shop (MSU campus) still there?
My Dr F/F worked long and hard to get me into the neuro clinic up there, (ins refused) after A2 neuro refused to deal with MS, then it was Wayne state, they only want patients in their 30x or 40s for their drug trials. The interns at the MSU neuro-opty were CLUELESS how to use their own equipment. They had no clue to the difference between Horizontal vs vertical, so I had to show them how....UGG! On top of that the NEURO I saw sat there and showed me all those MS Dawson's fingers, but they did not want to bother either. The eye exam alone was $600 and totally worthless.
So back to the VA for the MS workup, treatments, and new PRISMS for the diplopia (MS complication). They were in dire need of updating. I had not seen a specialist since about 84 in Orlando.
Our Cat's dog, a golden retriever had been rescued (abused) and treated by your vet school. She can not bark well due to surgery they had to do on her neck. How anyone can abuse such nice creature is beyond me, but I am a sucker when it comes to soft furry 4 leggers and (8 leggers, only if they are tarantulas)
Gomer 35 miles So, aka JOKEson.
Yes, MSU has a "Dairy Store," where they sell ice cream by the scoop, and they also have a fridge with different cheeses (including "chocolate cheese," which unfortunately contains partially hydrogenated vegetable oil). The nice thing about the Dairy Store is that within the past couple of years, they changed their "Single Scoop" of ice cream so that it is actually a single scoop of ice cream, and it costs somewhere between 1.50-2.00 (I haven't been there almost a year so I can't remember for sure). That is rare. Most ice cream shops serve way too much, so you either have to share it, throw it out, or eat it all and get sick.
MSU's vet school tends to charge a lot for their vet services, so I don't take my cat there. However, they do offer a lot of diagnostics, surgeries, and other services (including rehab) that a lot of other places don't offer, so if my cat ever needed a complicated surgery or something like that, I might take him there.
I'm sure my cat would love this underwater treadmill that they have at their Animal Rehabilitation Center (LOL!):

Now most of my open reels are Tascam multiracks, even my cassette porta-studios. I can also do half-track (FM stereo radio tapes). I also have an Akai quad open reel I coverted to 1/4" 8 track. I use that to covert quad 8-trks to DTS 4.0 or Dolby digital multi track CDs or audio DVDs. You might be suprised how good some old 8trks were, AFTER taken out of the shell and re-spooled for open reel.
I have not done much with them in recent years. I also have a couple 10.5"NAB Revox units, One is useless I got frm a Nashville studio in Hendersonville, a neighbor of Johny cash?? I would love to have a good Otari 5050. A station engeneer in Chicago had some very nice ones (they went digital) , but too rich for my limited budget. His dntn studio is right across from Millennium Park. I used to LOVE the pizza at MaCormic place, its to DIE for!
I have 10 track digital ability, but its obsolete now and the software is out fo date for newer windows versions. I can and have refurbed Tascams. All my open reels I got used and refurbed them.
Sad to say IMO MSU is great for animals, the human aspect (neuro clinic) was horrable. So was the cafe in that building, far from good and NOT diabetic frendly either.
Is Ryder's still in Lansing? Kalamazoo closed the last I hear. A2 is still there after several moves.
You know my screen name, my eamil is at netscape.com if you want to intercourse OFF here. ( propper term, not common useage among average society........lol.)
