Den, I so understand how you are feeling.
First of all, I want you to know that I'm hearing everything you are saying about the stress of taking care of the paperwork and phone calls yourself. When you have both a mental disability and a learning one, it's double trouble when something like this happens. Not having a car is harder, SO....
1) It's SO important that you take care of your diabetes FIRST.
Otherwise when you get lows, you will feel so awful, AND when you get highs, you will feel worst too. Also, taking your medicine for your mental illness is important.
2) Your support people, therapist, group friends, etc. are very important to your mental health right now. Can you take a bus there? I used to take 3 buses as a kid. Is your body healed enough to ride your bike. Can you have someone help you with calling about a replacement car on your insurance, if it has that? Maybe the guy who walks with you or someone from work? Wow...it's great that people are going to give you a ride to work. You're so lucky that people care.
3) You ARE so fortunate you weren't hurt badly. I'm so glad about that. You are going to be just fine. Right now so many things are being thrown at you.
Den, for me, just little things throw me for a loop sometimes.
I was working on my taxes last night. Just 3 hours of trying to figure out my medical(I have two insurances, one from Medicare now, and my old one from Kaiser). It was so confusing adding up the drug amounts, etc. My tax guy suggested I check online and see if they have that information. I know I have some learning disabilities, so I get it....I understand why this whole thing is overwhelming you.
Take a deep breath. You're actually fine. Put things in folders, if you need to...or wrap paper around the individual forms, so you can write on that the information you need. Ask someone to help you with the tasks that are overwhelming you right now.
When I was talking to Medicare, I told them I get very confused easily. People took their time explaining things to me. You'll get this all done.
We care about you.
FIRST...take care of your diabetes.
2ND, make an appt. with your therapist. See if there's a way you can get there by bus or bike.
Take care.
