I am 38 years old Asian woman who had gestational diabetes and I was fine after I delivered my son 9 years ago. Also, I was on insulin when I could not bring my blood sugar down by diet and excise along during my pregnancy .

I went to an annual checkup several weeks and my blood test came back with AIC 11.5 which was a shocking news to both me and my doctor. (I quit to check my blood sugar level for many years and I started to feel tired all the time by last year, and I assumed that I was aging and too stressful from my work.) I am about 5'5" and weighted around 132lbs and I have maintained this weight for past 8 or 9 years. I do yoga several times a week and some other workouts here and there.

I took my test result to my doctor immediately and he puts me on Metformin 1000 (500 in the morning and 500 in the evening.)to start with. I also started to walk 3 miles, about one hour a day as well as cut off all the white rice from my diet. I understand I need do all three, med, excises and diet to keep my blood sugar level done. However, between now and my appointment to see a dietitian, I need to know what's the average amount of carb I can take each day? I have cut off most of sweets out from my diet and started to eat at least 5 or 6 meals a day with small portion.

Would you please help me?

Fruit, vegetables and fish are perfect. Not so much wheat/rice noodles and cha siu bao.

Man, i am crying when you said not so much rice noodles and cha siu bao. They are favorites. I wish I will still enjoy them once I got my blood level controlled. Of course, I will watch the amount I am taking each day.

I know...they're my favorites, too, but keep walking like you're doing and you may be pleasantly surprised.

I have too count carbs too to adjust my insulin injections during the day. As such my doctor recommended that I average about 300 carbs per day. At first it was kind of a pain reading labels on everything, but I have reached a point that alot of what I eat I have the carbs memorized. I have alos downloaded the nutrician facts from all of the resturants that I frequent so I can plan what I am going to eat prior to going out. It's really not that hard just read the labels or ask your waitress for nutrucian facts if you go out.
