Hello,
My name is Erica. I just recently learned that I have Diabetes. I just recently got the blood test results back and am supposed to make a follow-up appointment with the doctor. Not sure what to expect, but I know some changes are necessary for better health.

Hi ericaann and welcome! You've found a great community of very smart and supportive people - this is a great place to learn and ask questions.

Here are a few places you can start to learn more about your diagnosis:

WebMD Diabetes Health Center

Dr. Dansinger's Blog: Conquering Diabetes

You might want to ask your doctor to refer you to a nutritionist who can help you move forward with a food plan.

Welcome Erica!

What were your blood tests? Did you get an A1C test, too?
Make sure you make that appt. with your doctor.

Erica, I was afraid to go to a first diabetes appointment, but once I went I found out that I was glad that I did. Type 2 diabetes can help you turn into a healthier individual if you eat right and exercise. When I was diagnosed my A1C was 9.9 and by the time I had had my 4th A1C it was down to 6.5. I have had a series of health issues, unrelated to my Diabetes, but my A1C has never been higher then 7.4 since and my doctor is kind of ok with that. Go to that first appointment, you will be glad you did
