Chad0219 posted: Hi,

I had the glucose tolerance test last week and got my results today. My fasting was 128 at 30 minutes I was at 210 at 60 minutes I was at 201 and at 2 hours I was at 139. My A1c was 6.6%. In March I had blood work done and my 12 hour fasting was 139, didn't do the A1c then.

My doc told me today I am pre diabetic and want me to follow a 1600 calorie diet and test my blood.

From what I've read my numbers indicate that I'm diabetic. I'm a bit confused now and won't see my primary (who did the test) until August.

Any insight and information you can offer woould be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Chad, yes, you sound diabetic from what you are saying. Again, we are not doctors here, but I would start "right away" eating right and exercising every day for at least 30 minutes. I started out at where you are, and was really strict with my eating. I was able to bring my numbers down to 5.8 A1C, with no medicine.

Unfortunately, four years later, I let down my guard a little, and have been eating more. I'm now on the lowest medicine. This summer, my goal is to lose the 10 lbs. I've gained of the weight I had lost. Maybe I can get off the medicine. I really don't feel it helps that much for me anyhow.

If you start now, and remain diligent with your food, you might not have to go on medicine. I still exercise 6 days a week, an hour each day. I'm also 65, which makes it so much harder to keep the weight down.
