Totally get this, Flute! I put on my "used to be looser jeans", and I was so uncomfortable!! They're tight, now. I'd like to blame it on the dryer, leaving them in too long, but my scale tells the truth!
I'm sure the dryer isn't helping either!

I started two days ago, too, and am feeling a little better! I plan to get off this 10 lbs. this year. My bs is stabilizing more.

Me TOO....I think I've put on well over 5 lbs. Even my t-shirts feel tight. No mystery here - eating more, less exercise.

I'm looking at June as my "get on it" month. June 1st is the new Monday!

Thanks for sharing Flute - putting it in writing seems to up my resolve to be healthier!

Photo, I am glad to hear your BS is stabilizing, must be the metformin is helping out. I too have put on a few pounds that I am busy trying to take off, but am wondering if it is muscle weight as the clothes all fit the same if not looser. Sometimes I feel like the incredible shrinking man!

Beta...I bet it's muscle, if things are still fitting the same!
For me, I know my stomach could use some inches off. The rest of me is really firm and toned. I'm in one size bigger. I know if I get the 10 lbs. off, I'll be just right for me "right" now.

So far so good. Did a lot of walking in Carmel and Monterey yesterday with my nephew and his wife. Climbed a big hill from the beach up to the main part of Carmel. Boy, was I huffing and puffing. Of course, I was carrying my purse and all my camera gear. Plus...they only 30 years old!! I'm over twice their age. Even with 45 min. to an hour of UJam Fitness dancing a day, I'm still sore in my legs from that walk up the hill. I don't eat that much, so I don't understand why I can't lose weight more.

I honestly don't think the metformin is working that well for me. It's all about not eating too many cherries or strawberries at once, having only one slice of bread instead of two, etc...just little things like that. I can't even eat a small bag of chips with a Subway 6" chicken breast sub with mustard on a small honey oat roll. That has way too many carbs for me. I used to be able to eat that...with no spikes. I'm definitely not processing things as well.

So...I still have to be strict, to stay lower...and by lower, I mean 98. I'm not getting the 85's from before. I'm sure my A1C is up. Of course, I've been on Prednisone for asthma and for my pinched nerve in my back, which may have really messed up my system in the last two months. All that raises sugar...I was in the 200's.

Have you been doing much pottery throwing lately? Are you selling anything? I've been doing some photography for the city and will be having some work shown there. Did you decide to kayak again? Did you do the kayak turning training?

I think my body has changed.

Photo, I have not gotten the kayak out yet, but the trip to the Adirondacks will include them.
My wife just bought a bike, it has been since childhood since she was on one for long. She always was afraid of hand brakes, liking coaster brakes. I explained to her that most bikes are made for dominant right hand, but with her being dominant left, she would squeeze the left early and thus brake the front wheel first instead of the back like a right hander would. The bike people when she saw them confirmed this, and rigged her brakes for her.
I am reading a book now Fitness after 40 by Vonda Wright, MD. I find much of it very relevant and with good news for us in the 60's. She says that of senior athletes and others that exercise regularly that the down turn only begins to happen after 75 for high performance. That folks that exercise regularly are improving much more than just their cardio. She talks about how various exercise improves joints, tendons, bone, lungs, organs, and mental acuity. She goes through studies that sight the importance of weight training for seniors. She also stresses that she does not believe in "No Pain, no Gain"! All in all a lot of info in a small book. I have only gotten through the first few chapters.

Keep up the effort, and realize that I have not been able to eat the types of carbs you have been describing since diagnosed. When they threw my numbers up, I stopped them. I still have one piece of rye toast, and a very occasional sandwich round, but not most of my meals are salad, veggies and lean protein. Snacks include nuts and fruit, berries and cream for desserts. Good luck!
