Post Exersice Drink and Diabetes

Hello,

I workout by lifting weights about 3 to 4 days per week. I'm 47 years old, and if the workout seems a bit heavy for a particular day, I feel fatigued about 2 hours after my workout for a bout 10 to 12 hours. I found that drinking Gatorade post my workout helps me very much with my fatigue. But as we all know, Gatorade has a lot of sugar in it. So my question is, is it ok to drink a carbs drink if you are diabetic after a workout for recovery ( i don't drink Gatorade any other time) ? If no, what are some suggestions for post workout recovery, mainly after lifting weights? Thanks.

Hello.

Did you know Gatorade has a lower calorie/lower carb version called G2? Here is a link to their site: http://www.gatorade.com/default.aspx#gseries?s=g2

Sounds like I am their spokesperson but I'm not. We drink G2 in our family when we have the stomach flu. I am diabetic and it does not spike my blood glucose readings.

Do you have access to a trainer? You could ask their advice. You could also post your question in the WebMD Fitness & Exercise Community here: http://exchanges.webmd.com/fitness-and-exercise-exchange
A third option would be to search the internet. Use Yahoo or Google to search for a phrase like "low calorie beverage after exercise".

I pray you get the answers you are looking for.

Since I have given up on all sweeteners, I pass on this sort of stuff. In the end, my sweetener is lemon in my water. For exercise I carry an apple, and some mixed nuts, or natural jerky.

Thanks Dave. I read a couple of places about G2 and Poweraid Zero, but wasn't sure if they work or not. I will have to try it. Thanks.

Thanks betatoo. Sounds like a very healthy way of living. I wish I could have your will power to eat lemon, water and nuts. I will keep your advice as a goal of mine.

It works for me, but then I do crave a soda once in a while, for that I drink stevia ginger ale. Once maybe a month. I also have one ultra light beer when bowling. Small steps end up taking you to places you never would have gone by trying it all at once.
