Written by a dietitian who specializes in diabetes, she tells a story of "Uncle Awesome" and what happened when he reached for the sweets at a family gathering.

Too Sweet or Not to Sweet?

Do you have dessert? If so, how do you fit it in with your food choices for the day?

I eat dessert often. Usually, 3-4 times a week. My desserts always consist of the same thing-mixed berries and whipped cream(redi whip). This satisfies my craving for "something extra" and won't mess up my diet. Since starting the diet in 2009, I have stayed away from sugars and artificial sweeteners as much as possible. It is not possible to stay away from these completely as nearly everything has some form of sugar in it.
Other carbs? Very low on Starches, high on veggies, and moderate on lean protein.
