What is the best type of snack before an excercise class>

It depends on what your blood sugar is before, whether or not you are on insulin, what type of diabetes you have, what your blood sugars do during and after exercise, and what the exercise is and how long it is for.

What happens to your glucose levels when you do your regular exercise?

I am type 2. the reason I asked was while I was excercising, I got dizzy and had to sit down. I didnt have my meter with me nor did I have any juice or anything. When I got home an hour later my sugar was 223. I wonder if I went low and had my liver help out. I also had a small breakfast. Thanks for your answer. I now carry m&ms with me!!

Barb, do you use insulin? Or an oral diabetes med that helps your pancreas secrete insulin? Lows or most common with insulin and some oral diabetic meds.

It is a little difficult to answer your question. Do you go low often during exercise? Dizziness can be a symptom of many other things, also.

I use two insulins, so I have to make sure my blood sugar is high(er) than I normally see. Physical activity lowers my blood sugar anywhere from 60-90 points from when I started. If I don't want to go low, I have to start out higher than normal. Crazy, I know. One day, my BS was at 153 (I did that deliberately.) This was at work. When I finished my shift it was at 90.

You have to know what your blood sugar is before you start exercising. We don't know if you went low (thus the reason for dizziness) since you didn't have your meter with you. It's important to test to see if you are low before you treat it.

You should know your BS patterns before you decide on what is best to eat before you exercise. Test before you exercise and then after. In many diabetics, exercise will raise the blood sugar because it is a stressor on the body. Don't be surprised when you see a higher number.

Experiment a little and see what you can find out.
