change in glucose level without eating between 2 measurements
mycheckup posted:
I measured glucose level before going to sleep; upon getting up next morning, measured again, but it went up 20 . What causes it to go up?
auriga1 responded:
It is called the "dawn phenomenon." While you sleep, hormones (cortisol, growth hormone, etc.) stimulate your liver to release glucose during the early morning hours if you haven't eaten. Your body takes it upon itself to refuel, because there is so much time from your last meal to breakfast. It thinks it's starving, so the hormones kick in.

Many diabetes experience the higher morning numbers.
rohvannyn replied to auriga1's response:
Is this more common in diabetics, or does this happen very much to non diabetics? Or is the effect more pronounced in one or the other?
