Is anyone familiar with the Humilin R500? And are there any other insulins that are comparable to this? The cost is extremely high.

Talk with your doctor and/or diabetes educator as they might know about local programs to help purchase insulin. You can also google 'prescription assistance programs' and perhaps there is one that will fit your situation. ~Lynn @Glucerna

Humulin R u-500 insulin is 5 times as strong as the normal Humulin R (which is u-100). So, 1 unit of the u-500 counts a 5 units of the normal type. This is used in people who have a very high tolerance of normal insulin, so they dont have to inject nearly as much.

I believe this is the only insulin of its type, and is expensive because it's not used as much.
