Vitamin D and how important this is.....
Dollbug posted:
I would like to encourage everyone who is having any sort of problems to ask your doctor to check your Vitamin D level....this is so very very important.....a simple blood test....but you MUST ASK the doctor to run it....

You might be quite surprised and pleased with the results....especially if your Vitamin D is low.....Low Vitamin D causes additional pain for most people.....

I agree - get your Vit D levels checked. You don't even have to go to a doctor's office or get your blood drawn. There are labs that offer blood spot testing for Vit D, where you just prick your finder and drop a few blood drops on a filtered paper, and then send it to the lab. You get the results yourself with a low-high range, so you know if you shold supplement or not.

A great deal of research and discussion has been happening all over the internet recently regarding the benefits of taking a vitamin d supplement. I was tested a few months ago and my levels were found to be low. My doctor started me on a prescription vitamin d pill that I took once per week and gave me and additional 50,000 units of vitamin d. I believe the vitamin d has helped me a bit with my chronic pain.

A caveat everyone should be aware of is that the blood test for your vitamin d levels is very expensive. If your lab work is covered under your medical insurance then the cost would be covered. Until 5/31/10, my medical insurance plan only covered 80% of the lab costs of any tests I had performed. I paid $60.00 for the vitamin d test. The technicians at the lab looked up the full cost they charge any patient with no insurance, and it was almost $600.00. So, just be aware that while it may be beneficial for your health, the vitamin d testing is usually quite expensive.
