IMPORTANT: Abbott Test Strip ReCall
avatar
arealgijoe posted:
FDA announced a RECALL of Abbott glucometer test strips.

The following strips/meters are affected;
Precision Xceed Pro
Precision Xtra
Medisense Optium
Optium
OptiumEZ
ReliOn Ultima

Here is a link to the FDA test strip recall.
I wondered WHY my Bayer always read higher than my Optium Ez which I like better. I need to check my lots numbers myself, I expect I may have, and been using, some of the recalled strips.

There is also important patient info and precautions as well as what to do at this web site.

Here is a direct link to the PDF file with the list of lot numbers, organized by meter model. You need an adobie PDF reader, most people have it n their computer, if not there is a free download available on the web.

Yep, I have some recalled test strips.....ouch!

Gomer:

Is this the same recall of Abbott test strips that Caprice posted about back on 12/22/10? Or is this a new recall?

From the date it looks like the same one but hey, it never hurts to see it again.

Thanks Gomer. :-)

It was on the NEWS last night. That was the FIRST I heard of it. I was on a ROAD TRIP when the recall happened and did NOT hear about it whatsoever till last night. I get my test strips quarterly from a DME supplier in Ohio via mail and they never notified me of the recall.

Since I DOSE my INSULIN based on meter readings, it can be IMPORTANT to me and I would expect to any other insulin users that use any of the listed meters / test strips in the recall.

Yes based on the link it is the SAME RECALL, but that does NOT mean ALL affected users got the mesage, me included.
I was on the road and on Dec 22 was in Lakeland, and Dec 25 was in Kissimme and in Orlando some days. I did ahve a minor issue while down there and saw a walk-in clinic Dr in Lakeland, I guess she was not aware of a recall either.

I'm with you, Gomer, in understanding that not everyone got the message at the time (whether via WebMD or elsewhere) so I'm glad you posted it here. It can't hurt and could really help others. :-)
