This past Monday my dr. put me on Metformin because my level is 7, up from 6.5 in June. Have not had a fasting glucose. Am on 1000mg a day of the meds and my highest number after breakfast and lunch is 105. This morning my number is 108 after no eating for 12hrs which I thought was high. Having done Atkins in the past the no "bad"carb eating is familiar to me. Just cannot figure out what my amount of carbs per day should be. Am female 60yrs old and have about a 100lbs to lose..haha..Have high cholesterol, unmedicated for that and on high blood pressure meds. Open to all ideas and suggestions.

Just for the fun of it, why don't you post back with some suggestions that you think would be good to bring down your blood sugar.

Start by reading Dr. Dansinger's blog at the top right hand corner of this page. Tel us how many carbs you are now eating per meal and what you feel are the bad carbs and good carbs. What med are you taking 1000mg of ? Do you take this all at once or in divided doses? What time of day do you take your diabetes med. How long afte breafast and how long after lunch are you testing to get that 105 reading? How long have you been diabetic and what measures have you taken to get it under control? Have your meds increased or your weight increased? What happened during and after your trial with the Atkins diet?

Lots of questions I know, but your answers will help us a lot in giving you more suggestions.
If at first you don't succeed, try, try again!

you can do it without Metformine.for 30 days change your diet, eat only vegetables, fish, and green aplles.
Breakfast asian soup (vegatable only) water and cup of green tea.
Lunch green salad with chicken 10% of your protein water and green tea.
Dinner 1lb or 3 fillets of Orange Roughy Fish plus 1LB or 4 small green apples.
Take vitamis plus B complex every day.
you will see how you will control your cholesterol and your blood sugar. Don't drink, sodas, juices or coffe. Only water as much as you can, also walk outside for 30 minutes.
good luck.
