    I simply cannot believe that researchers, over a period of three to four years, randomly assigned people to a high fiber or low fiber diet. That is a long time for people who do not normally eat a certain way to be compliant to a totally different diet.

    I am guessing that the researchers gave one group of people fiber pills or some other kind of fiber and had them add it to whatever they were eating and the other group added none of this stuff to their food. And thus came to their conclusions. Which, in this case, should have been---giving fiber in a form separate from the food does not prevent colon cancer.

    Or, while on their regular diet, researchers asked them to eat a couple more pieces of high fiber bread or a bowl of high fiber cereal and it just wasn't enough extra fiber to make a difference. Do you have access to the original study?

    It is also entirely possible that on the standard western diet which is chock full of meat, cheese and other dairy, eggs and lots of processed and junk food that anyone would be eating enough fiber rich food to make a difference.

    However, I did read something somewhere about the grains that some in Africa normally ate were now being processed and contained less fiber. And yet the people were not getting more colon cancer. But these people were not eating lots of meat, just their regular diet, but with the grains now processed. So perhaps it is the absence of lots of animal protein and fat in a diet which prevents the polyps.

    No access to the orig study so its possible they did just about anything and called it high fiber.I think "researchers" often do a study to pad their resumes and don't really care about real life situations ....just their research grants.

    Just like the Mediterranean vs Low fat study showed the mediterranean diet to be superior to the low fat diet. The low fat diet was about 35 per cent fat. Low fat is really about 7 to 10 percent fat. I believe the low fat diet had more fat than the mediterranean diet.

    Or just like at least one atkins study in which the researchers asked the subjects to eat plant protein and fat. How many atkins dieters do you know who eat plants instead of meat, dairy, eggs?
