Should Popular Weight Loss Drugs be Banned?
    Olivia_WebMD_Staff posted:
Consumer watchdog group Public Citizen is petitioning the FDA to ban orlistat, which is the class of weight loss drugs that includes Alli and Xenical.

Both drugs work by blocking fat enzymes from being absorbed by the body. The fat simply goes into the gastrointestinal tract and is excreted as waste. The most common side effects are diarrhea and stool leakage, which are said to usually lessen the longer the person stays on the medication.

However, Public Citizen cites that these drugs can cause serious side effects, such as liver damage, kidney stones and pancreatitis, and should be removed from the market.

Have you ever used an orlistat to help with weight loss? What was your experience with it?

Regardless of whether you've used the medications, how do you feel about banning these weight loss medications? For or against? Tell us why.
