why am I gaining weight?

BeautifulBuffalo posted:
I have blood clots in both lungs. I'm taking coumadin 8mg and 2 100mg of heprin injections daily. I'm also taking a medication to stop all my bleeding. I have gained 17lbs in one month and it's NOT my eating as I don't eat much. My blood count is a 6 also. I've had 5 transfusions but they didn't work.

I believe this is a medical issue, but what could it be?

Have you had a sleep study done?

Weight gain, Hypertension, Diabetes, ADHD, GERD, Depression...if you have sleep apnea all bets are off.

Nothing works right without a good night's rest.
That's the destructive relationship between weight gain and sleep apnea. They feed onto each other.

I haven't had a sleep study done, but I sleep restless all night with jerking, jumping, moving fighting talking etc. so my husband says.

I'm pretty sure my blood thinners aren't making me gain weight.

I drink diet gingerale could that be doing it.

I'm really upset. I have gained 13lbs in about 2 weeks. A Dr. today said maybe it's water weight from my medical condition but didn't say yes it is.

I go back to work on Monday and had to buy some new clothes. I didn't like doing it and my husband didn't like me spending the money.

brunosbud replied to BeautifulBuffalo's response:
People with pulmonary conditions have problems with water retention. Edema builds up in the lungs, the abdominal cavity and the lower legs, ankles and feet.

Another contributor to water weight gain...

Heart disease, heart valve conditions, arteriosclerosis. Any restrictions in blood flow and circulation cause the kidneys to trap and retain salt and water.

Measure the size of your ankles. If the size is steadily increasing, call your doctor and buy some pressure socks.

I will start measuring. I was told the right side of my heart isn't getting enough blood supply which is leaving me breathless upon exerction.

Please don't get freaked out by what you read here from replys, brunosbud means well with the reply but you have to have medical doctors reply. If you question what your physcian is telling you, please, get a second or third or fourth opinion....do not go by a response on this forum. Please do not get offended Brunosbud or BeautifulBuffalo, conditions you have posted about are way to life threathening to go by laymens thoughts....I beg you, if you question your physician, PLEASE, consult another doctor and then another and then another until YOU are satisfied with the answer! I have opinions, thoughts out the the A--! You need to make the final decision about your health, your life....not anyone else!

Hi there Beautiful Buffalo -

Have you checked in with your doctor yet? I think you need to get the rapid weight gain issue addressed ASAP.

As for healthy eating, I'm concerned that you don't have any fresh fruit or veggies on your plate! Here's a link to a printable copy of the new USDA food plate (replacing the pyramid):
