my husband has had watery diarrhea for 3 days and has lost 7 lbs in a week. Before the diarrhea he has been losing weight from the diet he has been doing for a month. The diet consist of half grapefruit for breakfast and an orange at lunch with some cheese and ham sandwich and a banana for a snack. He would have his normal dinner of potato, veggie and meat. Is the diarrhea from the diet he as been doing? He looks pale and sickly. He has lost about 34 lbs. His voice is raspy now too......and he is tired......my hubby weighed in at 220 and now is at 187. He has been doing this diet for 4 to 6 weeks now. should I be concerned?

Hey gallertb. I just have to ask this.. does your husband take any type of blood thinner for high blood pressure?
I only ask because I take one and though its not listed on the warning/side effects pamphlet that comes with my prescription, grapefruit can cause big bad side effects with it and other meds if eaten daily. You may want to google this if he takes any. Also. Please get him to a doctor if his blood tests are ok then get him to a nutritionist. He may not be getting all of the nutrients that he needs to stay healthy.
It's too much weightloss for that time period to be considered healthy. 2 lbs a week is the going rate, anything after that means that the body is starving for nutrients and eating its own muscle (it will eat muscle and deplete organs before it attacks its fat stores)

Sounds like it is time for a check up and blood work with your husbands primary care physician. It's possible he's not getting the nutrients he needs or there is another health issue going on.

Diarrhea, pale, sickly looking and fatigue is not the side effect of a healthy weight loss food plan!
