I'm in my early 20s and I'm classified as morbidly obese. This label, however, more than likely gives people the wrong impression of me or my upbringing. I have a sister only a year older than me, yet she is thin. Where is this going? I had an active childhood. I was always outside. We both did the same things, ate the same things, and yet, I would always gain weight. I have tried everything to lose weight as I fear I will die before I am even thirty years old. I have tried various diets and exercise, but the most that happens is I lose a few pounds and then stagnate.

I'm not even particularly lazy. I regularly go for walks and since I am a university student without a car, you can imagine I get a lot of walking done that way as well. I have a gym membership and usually go at least 5 days a week for an hour a day, half of which is spent on a treadmill and the other half on general exercises.

I'm becoming desperate because this is starting to take a physical toll. Could the problem be something that isn't dietary or related to physical activity? Suggestions?

I had the exact same problem as you. I was doing everything right and seeing no results. I am 21 and I had my thyroid, hormones, and cholesteral checked, and ever since they put me on medications to control these problems, I have seen weight loss. I was found to have a hyperactive thyroid as well as polycystic ovarian syndrome which can mess up your metabolism like crazy! I suggest getting a full physical with blood tests.
