First off, no matter what diet you follow or what you eat/don't eat, you need to start tracking exactly how many calories you are really taking in. I always suggest either the WebMD Food and Fitness Planner or the Fitday.com one to use as dietary intake/exercise output journals. They give you a visual aid to track your calories and nutrients and help you to better understand just how many calories you are burning per day with exercise.
When you fill out the charting system and plug in your goals the system will tell you how many calories to eat daily and how many calories per day you need to burn in order to reach your goal.

HI and thanks for your post. I'd highly recommend that you log onto the WebMD Food and Fitness Planner and input all of your numbers--- height weight age gender, What you'll get in return is a recommendation on general range of calories to safely remove excess weight gradually and in a sustainable way. If you're carrying excess body weight, removing one pound per week sounds reasonable. Please remember that in order to do this well and for the long term, you always need to combine with regular physical activity. That means walk more every day, and when you can, infuse some high intensity to really shake loose the fat in your fat cells. To shed weight effectively, you need to have the correct balance of activity and nutrition. The Food and Fitness Planner helps you to do this.

Vegetarians have plenty of great options for carbs, fat and protein. Try to keep in mind that you'll want lean proteins like soy, beans and nuts. Some folks are lacto-ovo and therefore you can add dairy and eggs to the mix. Non-animal source protein powders are the base for great smoothies. Veggie burgers and products like that are also good sources of protein. Healthy fats are derived from nuts, dairy, almond and peanut butter, avocado and protein associated.

Check out the Food and Fitness Planner for the Vegetarian options. You'll be so pleasantly surprised! And get up and stay active as well.

Good Luck!
