I will be having lap band surgery soon and wanted to see if I could find anyone that also has Chronic pain that takes or did take an extended release pain med and if they had to stop taking it after getting banded.

I have heard that they will not absorb correctly and you have to stop taking the extended release meds which is something I really would not want to do and I would almost rather have the Gastric Sleeve than know I would be in much more pain than I already am.

I would really appreciate the feedback if you know anything about this issue.

Hi Jonathan!

Thanks for your post - I was going to direct you to the Pain Management Community but I see you've already discovered it.

I hope members here chime in if they have a similar experience. I can understand your concern about not being able to manage your pain.

Best of luck to you!

I would seek out all alternatives before having lap band surgery. I know several people who had it done and are very disappointed with the extra skin hanging off their body. Also, their diet is very limited. Search on "PubMed" for lap band to get the latest updates from medical professionals and scientists. Good luck.

Haylen- yes I've been a part of the Pain Management community for years and thought both places would be good to post.

Jbgraham- thanks for your concern but I'm getting banded. It's not a cure all, it's a tool that has to be used. I know people that haven't succeeded all that well but they don't do what they are supposed to either. I'm ok with the skin because I already have planned a tummy tuck afterwards. I will have a trainer to teach me how to exercise so that while I'm lowing weight it won't all be saggy but for the most part I carry most of my weight in my stomach area. My life will forever be changed but I'm ok with that, 17 years of being over weight is enough. I'll be 27 this week and I've yo yo dieted for years and it just doesn't work for me. This has been so successful for people that do what they are supposed to do.
