A Teenager Trying to Get More Healthy

I'm turning sixteen in a month or so. I'm trying to get healthier and more in shape before the summer ends. I'm looking to lose some weight, but I also would like to get fitter as well.

Almost all the articles/advice I've read on getting healthier is targeted to older women. I'm curious if I could get any tips on weight loss/getting more in shape for a teenager.

I Muay Thai Kickbox 2-3 times a week and I walk my dog for a couple miles every day. In other words, I excercise fairly regularly.

What I'm trying to get advice on is diet; I'm a teenager, so of course at parties and sleepovers, I tend to binge on candy and junkfood. It's kind of part of the job description, if you will. But outside of special occasions like this, I try to eat healthy.

However, I'm curious what sort of foods would both help me stay healthy as a sixteen-year-old, and also what kind of diet will help me to slim down a bit.

Thank you!

Hey Silver. Welcome!
As a fairly active teen, those little occasional splurges shouldn't wreck you for a healthy goal if you try to eat well most of the time beyond them. I'll tell you what, here's the secret to lifelong health that most of us "older people" here didn't do when we had the chance.
Eat to feed your body. If you can, mainly stay away from processed foods (like hotdogs, overprocessed lunchmeats like balogna etc...), high fat high sodium meats like ham and reg pork sausages, preprepared frozen foods, and high calorie high fat desserts.
The best foods to eat come from animals that walk the earth or foods that grow from the ground. NATURALLY. Raw and fresh.
whole eggs, low fat milks(almond milk or soy milk), yogurts, meats made from fresh not processed, fresh veggies and fruits, whole brown grains (not white rice, white flour , etc.), beans and legumes. Simple foods, Basic foods.
If prepared with minimal salt, sugar and fats added, and eaten in SINGLE SERVING portions, this is really the best way to eat.
5-6 small meals per day. Around 280-400 calories per meal/snak.(never ever as a teen go below 1800 calories, and eat more if you are active)... 1/2 gallon of water every day....
Remember. You are still growing. Females can actually get a final growth spurt in their early 20s so feed your body right to stay healthy.
You are healthy now, if you really want to lose a few pounds, eat right , eat enough and just add a little more exercise. Don't stress over it.
