What are benefits of Gluten-free (or nearly so) for healthy people

A friend needed to go on a gluten-free diet for health reasons & lost lots of weight. Would this kind of diet have the same effect on normal healthy people?

I'm kind of wondering the same thing. One of my doctors (very vitamin/holistic oriented) told me to drop gluten, dairy and caffeine from my diet. I'm my no means in good shape, but I'm concerned that I'm missing grain-related nutrients. I'm going to try to meet with a nutritionist next week and get her opinion too.
