Can vitamin and supplements cause a stall in weight loss?

Hello, I am a 60 year old woman. I am a liftime WW member and have successfully lost weight on the core/simply filling/power foods technique. Last year I was diagnosed with osteoporosis. Instead of taking some scary medications, I opted for going to a nutrionist who prescribed calcium, vitamin D, multivitamin and Vitamin C regimen. I noticed a bit of a weight gain, but didnt think much of it. Four months ago, I was diagnosed with stage 1 lung cancer. I had surgery two months ago, and thank god, do not need any further chemo treatment. I went back to the nutrionist for his advice, he prescribed some seaweed, mushroom, enzymes, resveratol, probiotic in addition to drinking herbal tea to build my immune system and ingest cancer fighting supplememnts.i'm still taking the above bone health supplements. Following the post op instructions, i either walk up to 3 miles per day now, or on the days i dont walk, I have worked my way up to 30 minutes on the elliptical. I have also started following weight watchers again because i put on some weight since the surgery. (total weight gain = 10 lbs) So between watching my diet and exercising 6 sometimes 7 days a week, why can't i lose one pound??? can it possibly be the vitamins and supplements???

Thank you.

After your surgery, did they prescribe some sort of steroid to help you heal faster? If so, it could be that. If not, I could be that with all of your working out, you are putting on muscle mass which weighs more than fat.
At this pt, stop looking at the scales so much and focus on healing and feeling how your body is responding to your fitness/diet regimen.
The best way to deal with times when the scales won't budge is to start charting your measurements. Even if you don't lose lbs right off, you'll be losing inches.
Measure both your right and left wrists, upper arms, bust, waist, hips, both thighs, both calves and both ankles.
Make sure to write all these down and to date it. Then remeasure every month, and ONLY weigh in once a week.
Make sure you drink at least 64 oz of water every day and cut down on sodium to help reduce water weight retention.
hope this helps some

Losing weight healthfully isn't going to be easy or fast, but it WILL be worth it

Hello Kim!

Thanks for your reply! I've not taken any steroids at all. The only medication i took for 3 weeks was a beta blocker. I've not taken that for over a month already. I know I may be building muscle mass, which is great, and i really don't care too much about the actual weight, but I don't feel comfortable in my clothes. I think I am going to stop all supplements for one week just to see what happens.

Will keep you posted!

Thanks again,
Have a great day!
