My wife is an incredible baker and I am a 66 year old male addicted to desserts and sweets. With dinner, I like a glass of wine or two. The only way I could lose 17 lbs. is to not eat ANY desserts and cut out the wine completely. That and a 40 minute cardio and lifting workout 4 mornings a week.

We all have choices.

HI Buddy and thanks so much for your posting. I hope everyone out there is really listening to what Buddy is really saying. First, he acknowledges he's a sugar addict. This is a major and critical step in his ability to remove excess body weight. At his age, this is life saving since the extra weight is being deposited right inside his belly, increasing his risk for heart disease, diabetes and cancer. So, once you have a come-to-heaven session with yourself, you become clear that sweets just plain don't work for you. You can't have "just one". If you do, you binge. Next up, the wine is just another form of sugar. It's fermented glucose. So, we're back to the sugar thing.

Buddy, hat's off to you. You did the right thing. You bagged both of these bad boys. And, smartly, you're adding in your cardio to seal the deal. I would recommend, however, that for you age, you should increase the cardio sessions to 5 x week and integrate intervals of intensity. On the days you're not hitting the cardio, just stay active. Those activities of daily living are worth their weight in gold.

You're right. We all have choices. And you've made the right ones. Congrats to you Buddy. Well done indeed.
