Over the past 2 yrs. I have lost 37 lbs. I had a buddy, my first cousin. We'd both been blessed with the same genes! Had it not been for a buddy system, we both would both have given up when we hit the first plateau. We took 2 summers off from the dieting and tried to maintain within a couple of pounds. That was done successfully last summer and this summer. We have just got back to the basics once again and are struggling after almost 2 yrs. of this but we are determined to get a few more off. We've given ourselves a Dec. deadline. She counted points, I counted carbs. A dieter needs to understand how their body works and what food they put in their mouth matters. For the first time in many many years my bad cholesterol is the lowest it has ever been and my blood sugar is normal too even though I am not diabetic. We stayed in contact every day through emailing to support each other. We rejoiced with each other when one of us lost a pound but we were also there for each other to encourage each other to stay on track or to get back on track. We know we could never have done it without each other. We did it the difficult way....we did it on our own (no expensive diet club) watched what went into our mouths, putting one foot in front of the other for exercise, NO meds (they are a temporary fix) as there is no magic pill, and whole lot of perseverence and encouragement from each other and journalling. If we are unable to lose anymore, then we both realize that our bodies are trying to tell us that is where they want to remain. I am 64 and am within 10 lbs. of where I was when we got married 44 years ago. Anyone CAN do this, we did. The amount of time (2 yrs.) was lengthy and certainly not easy to keep motivated when our metabolism was so slow but we did it because of each other being there for us....
