For the past five weeks, I have been hauling my cookies out of bed @ 5am to hit the track with a friend and walk 2 miles every morning. So this morning, we decide to do our once a month weigh in....I gained 10 pounds!!!! WHHHHYYY???
I know part of it is that I recently changed jobs and this one is MUCH less physically demanding, but seriously....10 pounds???
My pants are fitting better than ever, so I am tempted to think its muscle gain...but that seems like a LOT of muscle to gain in five weeks. Any thoughts??

Don't give up. If the pants are fitting better than it could be at least some muscle gain. Did you take your measurements when you started this process?

There are several possible reasons for a weight gain while we are exercising... muscles retaining water, and muscle gain are two. It could also just be simply related to where you are in your monthly cycle.

You mention only exercise, are you changing your diet as well? With the change in your job, your body may be reacting to less physical activity and if you haven't made changes to your food intake that could take a toll.

Hopefully the gain is just a temporary glitch but you may want to weigh more frequently such as once a week to help figure out if this is just related to a point in your cycle or if something else is going on.

Bgbcmommy--I agree with Deb (Irisheyes) How about have a monthly measuring session along with your monthly weigh in? Then if the weight loss isn't what you'd hope, you can see improvements in your measurements.

Keep up with the walking! I've been doing it every day for a year and while the weight loss has been very slow, it's happening.

If your weight gain continues, please see your doctor. Thyroid malfunction and other issues can sometimes throw things off, and your doctor will be able to check everything out.
