Advice for weight loss!

I know that its extremely easy to overeat and to have that extra handful of crisps or the extra helping at dinner... I've been there before and within a year I'd gained two stone. It wasn't fun at all, I felt self conscious all the time and was so sensitive about my weight whenever a guy would be looking at me.
But I've lost all that weight (and more!!) and I feel good about my body. People are now saying 'you're looking so slim what's your secret?' and it feels good to hear that!
I have a few tips to share

- Think before you eat! Ask yourself if its really worth the extra calories, and think about how much better you'll feel about yourself in the morning. Sometimes we just eat mindlessly and that leads to unexpected weight gain and you feel bad about yourself for going ahead and eating all of the unnecessary calories.

- Don't stock your house with unhealthy foods - simple as that. Its easier to gorge on chips and biscuits if you have them at home... so don't buy them! Buy fresh fruits, dried fruits, crackers, nuts, make a fresh veggie platter and have some healthy dips with it like hummus, guacamole etc.
One thing that I kept in mind is that you don't have to deny yourself of junk food completely, but instead of eating it everyday, make it a weekly treat that you can look forward to at the end of the week.

- Exercise! I made a little exercise routine for myself at home which I'd do each morning, it consisted of a few stretches, toe touches (finally got there!), squats and lunges. I found it good to get in the extra few minutes of exercise because it kickstarts your body for the day. My favourite form of exercise is walking - I walk everywhere now and it really helps. Take it slowly at first and start with a short route, later on you can increase it. Biking is also a fun way to get around

- Cut down on the meat - often when we eat it, it tends to be fried or whatever which adds to the calorie count, so I started eating more fish at meals. A meal now will be a piece of grilled tuna steak with stir fried vegetables, a little bit of brown rice and a spoon of sweet chilli sauce.

- Find distractions and get new hobbies! I took up reading again and its good because I find it hard to concentrate on both eating and reading at the same time.

- Finally, think about how good you'll look in that cute little dress that's been sitting at the back of your cupboard, waiting for you to wear it. If you need motivation, let your dress size be your motivation. I know when I put on weight I was shocked that I wasn't able to fit into my clothes, but now that I've lost weight I can buy nicer, smaller clothes and feel better about myself! I also gave away my larger clothes to charity so I felt even better

Seriously, once you lose weight you will gain more confidence and it won't only be your hot new bod that guys will be checking out, but the smile on your face (sorry that's incredibly cheesy, cheesy but true!)

Basically, stay active and eat as healthily as you possibly can! Hope that helps!

Congratulations, and thanks for the good tips. Your perseverance definitely paid off. I especially like your advice on thinking before we eat, and finding distractions - very true!

I think eating meat can be healthy though, as long as you don't fry it and eat lean cuts. I mainly grill my meat (lean parts like fillet steak) , and the calorie count is relatively low. Portion size is crucial of course.

Red meat is an excellent source of protein and other minerals and vitamins.
