Chicken skin

Tomato05 posted:
I am always a bit surprised when I see people eating chicken with the skin - surely everyone knows nowadays what a fat-soaked trap the skin is. Ever since I was a child in our house the skin was always removed; maybe that's why eating it is a "foreign concept" for me.

It doesn't even taste nice, with its slimy texture, and you cannot even chew it - it remains one slippery piece.

Do you eat the skin, and do you actually like it?

The only time I eat the skin on chicken is if it's bbq'd and charred on a grill. I can't tell you the last time I actually did that....lol. It's really been years. But I remember when chicken and turkey skin started really grossing me out at around age 15. From then on, I removed it(unless done as stated above.)
I don't even cook chicken with the skin on anymore unless, like Judy, I'm preparing a pot of broth for soups or gravy.

Judy, that is an enormous calorie saving indeed. Definitely worth tossing the skin for that.

Kim, it sounds as if you are definitely "reformed" from eating the skin after so many years of not eating it.

It just goes to show how one can stop eating something that's not a wise choice, like both of you have done.

I like the skin, actually. But the only way I tend to eat chicken is on the grill, and when it's all crispy like that it's actually really, really good.

I basically tend to eat all my meat very plainly and simply though, and because I'm not adding calories with other "flavors" like marinades or sauces or whatever, I tend not to worry, calorically, what the meat is giving me. I also tend to eat meat only in small portions, so it just doesn't worry me in general.

Indeed, 3point14 - portion control is essential, then one can indulge somewhat here and there with a little extra fat or sugar, and the calories will still not exceed your top level in the end.

I always have to remind myself that tastes differ - things that one person finds off-putting, another may love, and vice versa. While I cannot contemplate enjoying chicken skin, others may shake their heads at my preference for hard candy!

Well Tomato,
Lets be honest,I didn't get fat by looking at the fatty foods. I ate kfc's and fried chicken. Full of cholesterol.

Now I buy only boneless and skinless chicken. I try to find it on special. Easy to cook.

Me too, Helene . I used to practically inhale Cain's chicken tenders meals . Still love them but gotta watch those puppies. Full meal has just under a full day's calories, which isn't good since I'm getting very used to eating 3 meals and snax, I cannot just eat one meal a day anymore.

Yes I used to like turkey and chicken skin as long as it was nice and crispy. I don't any more. I buy boneless skinless chicken.
