Hi all,
I've been off the blog for a week, sneaking in once in a while.
My mother fell last Thursday and she was in emergency for 3 days and 1 day in a ward. She has 2 slipped disks and is in pain and back at home. Since I'm an only child guess what. Thank goodness I have 3 good kids that visit here to give me a break. She on strong pills for 3 weeks and we will see.

For good news my second daughter got here exams results and she passed the Bar exams, so after her 6 months practice, we will have a lawyer in the family. Too proud.

For me I'm maintaining at 196 and with all that stress and running around not to bad.

I'm so glad that I have this great group to lean on for support or just to make me smile.

Welcome back Helene, missed you. Really sorry to hear of your mothers' fall , back injuries are nasty. Thank goodness you have family to fall back on when you need a "caregivers" rest.
Extreme congratulations to your daughter on her bar exam. Wonderful news for you and yours. I wish every family could have a lawyer, a doctor and a vet so that it would cover most of the bases, lol.
Maintenance during stressful times is twice as hard, so cudos to you for passing this test too.
As for your mother falling, does she use a cane or walker? I have been looking at Nordic Walking canes, to help with my gait and add extra exercise as I walk. Perhaps you should look into them for her(?) Lots of testimonials for these. I found a super good site that has noncollapsible ones, the collapsible canes and such are a terrible choice due to their ability to "fold" or Collapse under weight strain.
www.skiwalking.com they look pretty cool and they aren't too overly priced for the cheapest set . Perhaps her doctor can even Prescribe them so that they are payed for by her medical insurance (?)

Thank you ladies for all the encouragement and the good wishes.
Mom 81 last Thursday was driving, doing her shopping and maintaining her home. I was pretty lucky.
Kim she needs a walker right know to help her walk. Hopefully after the 3 weeks treatment she will feel better, but has a nurse she thinks that she should have no pain at all:(. Patience is not exactly her forte. I smile and nod. She like a lion roaring.

I saw some people with the ski walking sticks. There are mostly used for long or multi terrain. They seem to be fun.

I just came back from my appointment with my Rheumato and one more thing osteoarthritis in the hips. One more good reason to loose the weight.
Maybe this bell will sound loud and clear in my head.

Sorry to hear about your mom but it sounds like you have things under control. That is so great about a lawyer in the family. I know I would be very proud. Maintaining is a great thing also. Maybe once things calm down you can focus on losing. Hang in there you're doing great!

Sorry to hear about your mom's discs and pain yet glad to hear you are coping well with the situation.

I've gone up 4 pounds recently, back at 200 pounds for the first time since last year. My calories and food choices are too much.

Sorry to everyone, and myself especially, that I am not doing better on the scale. Still walking daily, even played tennis with friends Wednesday and loved it.

Hi Helene! Let me be the first to Kick your butt.... consider yourself kicked. Ok. that was fun.....
I want to tell you that I've been doing that caloric "cycling" up one day down the next , ranging from 1350 cal down to around 930 which isn't so bad. It has , I believe, gotten me off of my plateau for the time being. Went from about 207 earlier this month to 202.6 so far. Have also been walking a bit more to boost my caloric daily burn a bit too.
Got a new haircut today, it's a messy thing , almost shaved up the back and graduated layered bob up front, LOVE IT so much cooler in this intrepid heat.

Congrats Kim. I do the calorie cycling thing too, but only about once a week will I eat more than 1200. It really does seem to help keep your body guessing.

Laura, hang in there. Keep moving, keep posting, keep thinking thin!

Laura, don't be sorry to us. That makes me feel like I'm walking behind you whipping you with a wet noodle to keep you in line. (which I am, but you aren't supposed to notice )
Did you see that Debbie and I are doing some calorie cycling? Have you tried that yet?
I start out my week around 1000 cal, then go the next day down 100 or so, then back up to about 1200-1300 then down again. I can't say for sure, because I've only done it for a couple of weeks now , but it seems to keep me from plateau-ing for too long. And I haven't gained more than half a pound on any given day (like with drinking too much water right b4 bed), then it goes right back down.
You are doing good though, upping your exercise a bit. Make sure you are taking your measurements too.
I've not upped my walking distance too much, but I'm trying to walk it faster. That way I do the cardio thing too. Perhaps that's the only change you really need to make. Don't jog or run because of your arthritis, but pound that pavement faster. Make sure you time yourself from start to finish so you can keep tabs on how you are doing.
Let us know. K? And keep your chin up and your eye on the prize.

Yes, me too, Debbie. One day a week around 1350. And I am trying to blend my weeks together so that that big day isnt the same every week. Hopefully this and the bit of extra push in my walking times will help get me to Onederland . I'd really like to see that by the end of this month. I havent been in the 100's for about 5 years and before that little worthless , short lived diet, it'd been about 8 years. So all told, less about 3 months in the 190s , 13 years too long.
